« Garden » is a place (perhaps another world) created for the sole purpose of accepting all sexual activities between its participants. This allows them to fulfill all their deepest sexual desires and find eternal happiness, something impossible on Earth. We follow the stories of two young girls, Hitsuji and Ninjin, finding themselves in this “Garden”. GARDEN starts by showing us a girl holding balloons. She wonders if a sanctuary exists where any type of love can be allowed? How many people would find happiness?

Shortly after, a boy and the same girl are in a karaoke room. This is an offline gathering of players from an online video game. Seeing her uniform, the boy asks Suiren if she is in the same school, but she denies it and says it’s just a cosplay. The night passes, and the boy feels more and more nervous at the idea of being around such a pretty girl, to whom she asks him if he wants to « look ». He tells her that he is not satisfied with that, to which Suiren responds that she wants to make love.

Garden The Animation capitalizes on this feeling of desire or lack and tries to give it a home. You begin to realize that it wasn’t a home this lost feeling was looking for, it was faith. Despite the harsh elements of the storyline, there’s no denying the show’s exceptional animation and character design. The vibrant colors make the visual experience as enchanting as the Northern Lights. The sex scenes are exciting, the actions have no real-world consequences. However, the series also includes a lolicon scene which may disturb some viewers.
